I have absolutely no recollection of ever having contracted the flu. Of course, I don't think I possess any distinctive features, including my good looks, that would particularly ward off the influenza demons. Likewise, I don't believe I was born with a more sophisticated immune system than any other healthy man or woman. However, I can attest to one thing that has remained my primary focus since early adulthood - the fact that I have striven to achieve and maintain good health. A healthy lifestyle has been proven to be the best remedy known to man to produce good physical health. To me
healthy lifestyle
, in a general sense, defines a set of behavioral patterns that are controlled and organized and yield a targeted outcome. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining a balanced diet, consistently participating in routine physical activities, and being mentally focused.
Now, I'd be damn lying if I stated that I followed all these guidelines religiously. In fact I don't believe anybody does. However, for the most part I can honestly say I have been consistently aware of what makes it to my stomach. Unlike many so-called dieters, I eat a wide range of food kinds, including a lot of meat and carbs, however, the preparation, quantity, combination and frequency have been highly significant in my consideration. Also very important to me is a full balance of all the critical elements such as the right amounts of carbs, proteins, vitamins, etc. I also supplement my diet but I tend to focus more on the natural sources of these essential elements. I also find it important to keep into focus the potential for developing various forms of cancer, high blood pressure, congenital abnormalities, diabetes, stroke and prostate disease.
It is so important to balance our sodium (salt) intake and carefully restrict or if possible, avoid the foods that are high sources of fat. Proper hydration, specifically with plenty water, is essential to balancing our body fluid medium. Inadequate amounts of fluids can lead to a build up of destructive toxins that can result in cell damage, heart failure and other debilitating illnesses. I also find it astonishing that in this day when there are increased risks associated with what we eat, many people don't seek to educate themselves on the food sources that contain the potential carcinogens, oxidants and other impurities that lead to diseases.
Besides being a passion I have realized the benefits of physical exercise. I would advice people who don't have any knowledge about the subject to develop an exercise routine. Although recommended, it doesn't necessarily have to include a treadmill, butterflies, ab machines, curl bars, etc. It can include simple maneuvers like biking, jogging, climbing the stairs, doing push-ups, having more physical sex, etc. Routine and regular physical activities are important for improved and functional cardio-respiratory systems, burning calories and muscle strengthening.
How can I forget the benefits of maintaining a cool head. Stop sweating the small stuff. You either throw two punches and get it over with, rather than incessantly bitch over your neighbor parking in front of your driveway. Stress can kill, stress is no friend, its an enemy. Finally, I stress the importance of regular monitoring of our bodies and our body systems. Get regular physical check-ups. Monitor your cholesterol, check your blood pressure (there are digital manometers available at CVS, etc.). Men swallow your pride and get that prostate and colorectal exam. Ladies dont forget that mammogram.
Oops, thought I was talking about the flu. Anyway, this is kinda what I do, so since its good, why not do it here too?
