JAMAICA: Gunmen kill five, injure four

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) - Gunmen opened fire on a crowd playing dominoes near Jamaica's capital, killing five men and wounding four others, police said Saturday.

The attack happened late Friday in a gritty area of Spanish Town, just west of Kingston, a police statement said.

Nine men were playing dominoes at a corner grocery shop when a white car drove up with several men inside. The men jumped out and opened fire with handguns before speeding off.

Three victims died on the scene, while two others died at a hospital. The four injured were treated for gunshot wounds and listed in serious condition.

The shooting brought the number of people killed in Jamaica this year to 919. Last year, 1,045 were slain on the Caribbean island of 2.6 million in violence largely blamed on a growing drug trade.
