One thing that has bothered me for some time is that I can't put my finger on anything Uncle did during his tenure as PM that was real outstanding. However, I agree that he was excellent at Finance. In other words, in my mind he's been suspect as leader, not just because of the cumulative losses we've suffered over the years, but for other reasons.

A major defect in Uncle's leadership style is that he micromanages. As PM, he ran all ministries, including Finance and, by spreading himself so thinly, the party did not accomplish much during that time. Hence the trouncing we got at the polls in 88 (?). Remember, JA voters are some of the most sophisticated in the world.

I still believe that, given his track record at Finance, had he not been white, he could have won at least one of the elections we lost. Remember, Yardie, de 'black man time now' ting was very effective for the PNP.

But it goes beyond a simple matter of skin colour. Sis RR made a very important point earlier. PJ knows how to rap with the people whereas Seaga, to this day, is withdrawn almost to the point that he could be accused of being snobbish. But I know better.

After MM wup us 72, I was at Ed Bartlett's home in Havendale and Ed was ranting and raving that he wanted no part of Seaga. I, on the other hand, took the opposite view, believing that JA's only hope was to put Uncle in JA House permanently. Needless to say, I was surprised that EB would later become a protege of Uncle.

You make one point with which I concur wholeheartedly, YG. Uncle had his chance to transform JA into a one party show, but that is not his style. I don't know why he never got more credit for the fact that he never retaliated against the PNP for the state of emergency that MM declared in 76. It was, in total, aimed at the JLP to the point that when Uncle won in 80 MM went on tv to beg for his life literally. I saw and heard him myself.

All the good things aside, I have to say, me tiad fi lose!!
