Ms Hamy, I need to talk to a teacher about this hullabaloo. A former colleague of mine has been hounding the Gleaner's Editor and swears to God to make a formal complaint to the Gleaner's Board of Directots. The Editor has been VERY selective about what letters or articles get published about teachers. Anyone that puts down and belittles teachers is sure to be published. Any columnist who derides teachers gets a guest column even if criticising teachers has nothing to do with their articles. last Sunday there was one man berating indiscipline in Jamaica and out of now here he throws fith on teachers and how low the requirement is to goto college. To this day we cannot see the relevance of the comment. The guest columnist himself had the nerve to respond to this person saying that was just a comment that pretty much had nothing to do with what he was writing about.
Now that the government got poked where it hurts it has come out about these specialist teachers who got overpaid. It remains a secret that these specialist teachers are really degree holders who are not teachers but are employed pre-trained and for a while got paid same salary as holders of Teachers' Diploma. Then the government came to their senses in 1995 when they realise that the law requires these degree holders to go to college to upgrade to teachers' diploma. Next thing we know the government got stunned again and instead of asking these specialist teachers (Degree holding pre-trained teachers) to go an upgrade it was the higer qualified diploma holding teachers who were being hounded to to and upgrade to a status less than they have. Now any fool would that that is an act of downgrading but no we Jamaicans and our government are so creative that we tell people they are going up when we force them to go down. Now they have the nerve talking about overpayment.
Teachers have been beaten up constantly since time immemorial and its freaking time that ends. People like the Gleaners' Editor and one racist Ralph Thompson (calls himself PHd) should be publicly given the boot!
