Well folks, I am back in the cold - yes, even snowing to rhatid!
I don't know how my brothers and sisters make life work for them in Ja, but they do and they all seem to be doing well enough. They are all in the latest bashment and they are at every night spot paying $500 to enter and buying liquor galore. As such, I have summarized that things bad, but could be way worse. I may be wrong and in such few short days, I may not be the best reporter, but I was able to be all over the place and with all levels of people, so some things are not all bad. Many of the roads are in excellent shape. However, Clarendon still seems to be given the cow tail - I really believe the people of the parish need to demand that their reps do more for them. The congestion in the Spanish Town area is incredible, but the road surface is not so bad.
The people dem teef di fencing dat was put around the highway from Old Habour to May Pen to keep out the cattle. As such, the cattle are straying on to the roadway and the second death happened on Thursday evening as a JPS worker was heading home to Manchester. And to hear the people talking about "wi waan justice fi di man becausen sey him was a good Christian man who nuh du nutten wrang and de tician dem di sey di road safe". All this time, none a dem peeple nuh stap fi realize seh eff di peeple dem neva teef di fence, di cow woulden get fi come out and stray inna di good man car and kill him. Di peeple dem hexpec di tician fi duh everything fi dem and fi carrect all a di tings whey dem purposely do wrang. Amazing!
One 26 year-old woman on Friday morning was overtaking a line of traffic heading towards Mandeville, just up a hill, when shi si a truck coming and hit har brake and try fi squeeze in where there was no space at all, the car then skid (must have been wet roads) and the truck literally ran over the car (one of those small ones). Honest to God, the bonnet was almost non-existent and the rest of the car was just a crumpled mess. Imagine when she reached the hospital, the peeple complain how dem neva tek har outta the van quick enough and dats why shi dead! As Sis looked at the crumpled mess and as one who sees these things on a daily basis, she just shook her head saying it is clear it was a dead body that arrived and as such, the hospital will not remove it from the vehicle, but the doctor declares her dead and the body becomes the responsibility of the funeral home and not that of the hospital. The peeple insist that she was not dead. Now none a dem a nuh medical summady, and even doe mi knoe zilch bout dead and live, the state of the car made it clear that barring a MAJOR miracle, they should be unable to find even a needle not broken in that mess. So they want justice from the government on this as well. Nobody naah talk bout how the lady stupid fi a overtake such a long line a traffice pan a hill, roun a karna - no sah, dat not news worthy.
I believe that there are more positive things going on in Ja than is being told to the world. Why is it that bad news moves so fast and the good news is never heard. Sure there is much for the government to do, but the people have a role to play and then we can get a balance. It seems it is the policy of one particular station to ONLY report negative news. I was told of a case where someone went to this particular station to share a good news story (of students success under incredible negative situations) and they were told that they don't carry that kind of news. This is not hearsy. This is the person of excellent principles (if I named parties involved in this, many of you would know them), and this is what they were told. Now, I question what is the responsibility of the media in selling bad news about Ja to the world!
Ja needs our support -

COMRADES
alike!
