Errol, I did not cease being a citizen of Jamaica when I migrated. The constitution affords me all the rights, priveledges and protections as any other citizen who is domiciled in the island except the vote.

RichD, I pay both land and income taxes at home and I also have a TRN number (even though I consider this to be irrelevant to the issue). The fact is that you also have to be at your given address the day that the enumerator and scrutineers visit. You can't juss jump on a plane and show up in JA on any arbritrary day then "register yourself". If that were the case we wouldn't be having this discussion. I also have a question for you.

If I went to live in Jamaica again but did not contribute anything to the economy, should I be able to vote ?

In any event, I will admit to finesssing the process in previous elections and did indeed vote. I refused to go through that for the last general elections though as I feel that this should be my right, not something that I can do because of who I know.
