HR, while no sport or activity related to snow and cold can ever appeal to me, I think Bryant Gumbel went way over the top there. Why such a public putdown from such a high position as he occupies? He sounds grumpy. I remember well the comments from many sportscasters here in the 80's through early 90's everytime the World Cup would come around:
. . They call this the world's most popular sport?
. . 90 minutes for a 1-0 score!
. . What kind of football is this?
. . Americans will never be interested in this sport.
. . Etc., etc.
How about tennis a few short years ago, Althea Gibson and Arthur Ashe notwithstanding? I don't have anything negative to say even about ice hockey.

And see there now... J'can Lascelles Brown "is the second black bobsled medalist in Winter Olympics history; another brakeman, Vonetta Flowers of the United States, won a gold medal in the women's event four years ago in Salt Lake City..." Then, of course, there is Shani Davis' success at the 100m race.

I see a sport just starting to be integrated. Trust me, even our football and cricket were there at one time.

On Haiti, absent a crystal ball we can only really make our best guesses. But I'm betting that the DC gang are on the backfoot, as we say in cricket. And granted, a batsman can make and attacking stroke from the backfoot, I say they are being forced there by all the recent events I mentioned. They'll have to sue for peace and mitigate their losses at some time, which I believe they are bright enough to realise. Else, I'll be adding more cases to the list in the few years before a Democratic administration takes over.

How goes it, Maas EW?. You know, I'll do a small-scale search for Fl Indian for you. Though I never met her, I know her name, town of residence and her summer-time modus operandi. I'll let you know.
