Can you picture the scenario if delegates were to choose
a candidate Y and the GG scuttles the selection and chooses candidate X?!! There'd be hell in Jamaica, to put it mildly. Some things on paper just ain't practical.

The basic idea being touted by this patois contingent is that our children are not learning because they are being taught in English. That is but one view, which, to the best of my knowledge, has no basis in research. Where is the research conducted in Jamaica to validate this point? Where is the research, apart from the personal views being espoused by some of these people? When have these members of the patois contingent conducted any study that has determined that the reason Jamaican children are not learning is because they are being educated in English? If this is the case, how do you explain those of us from prior generations that have gone on to do well, not only in Jamaica but in other parts of the world? How did we learn? How did we get to the point where we could get PhDs in various institutions?

Where are the degrees in patois to validate these programmes that these people are advocating? Here are these people, armed with their various degrees earned in various English-language institutions, now telling us, particularly poor Jamaicans, that the way that others can be like them is for these others to be educated in patois. They can only take these steps with poor people pickney, because I am sure they will never approach Mona Prep, Campion, Immaculate, and such schools with this crap!

At least this person is honest in her assessment of why Portia should avoid the debate.

A debate between four candidates who are, or were members the Cabinet, explaining what they would do now that they could not do before would, in my view, be an indictment of P J Patterson's leadership and could serve no useful purpose to the present administration.
