Whenever I hear discussions regarding the relevance of Black History Month in the USA and why it is celebrated in Jamaica, I have pangs of regret that my child does not understand the dialect of her parents.
It is one of my greatest regrets that WC cannot follow a Jamaican play and has never spoken a word of this dialect, a part of her heritage. She understands some phrases such as pickney, eff a ever lick tidday, but that is not enough.
