Sis Why, it's funny that I was going to comment on Errol's statement that him and his wife only speak it when they do not want the children to understand. I was of the opinion that their children were older, so they would at least understand some, but now that you have said this, I realize that some adult kids really do not understand patois - maybe I was not paying attention. I am stunned at my 8y-old's ability to both understand as well as speak it. I must say, the speaking does come with the accent, but, her understanding is right on target. She has been going to Ja every year since she was born and she started spending the entire summers there as well. She brings back the lastest dance for me each year - last year being the Willy Bounce and I am just taken aback by how well adjusted she is. I suppose you should not really feel guilty though, if she did not really take an interest in learning it, then what can you do! Lata
