Sis Whyme our Nanny who has been with us for the past 5 yrs is a Jamaican from deep down St. Bess. I can still remember the first time that I left her with the kids. 9 yo asked her for sausage and eggs for breakfast and she gave him hot dogs and eggs. He was 4 at the time he called me and asked why she gave him hot dog for breakfast. I laughed so hard at the office. She was also the one that told him to "Lock yu kitchen door" when his zipper was down. Patois is a joke in my house especially on the w/e when Nanny goes home and their friends are visiting. There are not many patois words that they don't understand. I was fearful at first that MTB would have a hard time in school but he is fine although they don't speak patois fluently but every now an then 9 yo will reprimand MTB in patois as in "bwoy wha rang wid yu"
