As an educator maybe you can explain something to me because I am just not getting it.

Where did the idea that patois needed to be saved, protected, taught, codified or institutionalised in any way come from ? Is there some data out there to suggest that patois is disappearing a yard ? Or that Jamaicans are having some trouble communicating with each other in the vernacular ? Who did this study or decided it was a priority within the education system ?

My highly unscientific observations have suggested to me that the only language that seems to be in danger of disappearing from the Jamaican landscape is Standard English. But as I always say, what do I know.
