Yardy, I am far removed from many of the "intellectual" discussions these days. Back in my college days, the black Haitians discussed formalizing their dilaects in a written form and using it for formal education. Their primary reason was to retain their black identity, their heritage and separate them from the language of the oppressor (Baby Doc and his cohorts). I remember wedding invitations in Kryol. Then about 15 years later the black americans started with ebonics. One of the main proponet of this ebonics is actually a Jamaican. She was the main spoke person. Then now, Jamaica is on the band wagon.
