As the Gleaner has pointed out, not a penny has been added to the disaster fund since 1988, yet the country has had to deal with one disaster after another since that time.

This grabbed my attention because the same lack of fiscal discipline is responsible for looting of the bauxite levy, much of which was earmarked for a special fund. The levy brought over a billion U.S. into our treasury but there is nothing to show for it. Yet the people keep voting this government back into power.

I am calling on the Opposition to take up these two matters in Parliament in order to have the disaster fund properly funded on the one hand and to have every penny of the bauxite levy be put into reserves, as was determined by Michael Manley when he was PM.
