I am smart enough to be PM, says Simpson-Miller

Peoples National Party Presidential contender, Portia Simpson-Miller, has scoffed at claims that she is not intelligent enough to become the country's next Prime Minister.

Mrs. Simpson-Miller, who is one of four contenders for the People's National Party's top job, says she refuses to pay attention to such comments because they are based on jealousy.

She says the criticisms by some of her colleagues come with the territory and insisted that she has the skills to be Prime Minister.

Mrs. Simpson-Miller also disclosed that she is focusing on the campaign ahead, adding that a team led by Anthony Hylton is hammering out the finer points of a policy document for a Portia Simpson-Miller-led government.

DR. CAROLYN Gomes, executive director of Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ), narrowly escaped being jailed yesterday after rankling Chief Justice Lensley Wolfe in the Supreme Court.

The Chief Justice was continuing the summary of evidence in the Kraal murder case, involving Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reneto Adams and two other policemen, when Dr. Gomes' gesticulations caught his attention.

Based on the Chief Justice's utterances, it appeared Dr. Gomes was disagreeing with his direction to the jury.

"Mrs. Gomes, I will lock you up," the Chief Justice shouted. "Just behave yourself. I fear no one but God."
