A niece of mine was in a serious car accident on Sunday in NJ. She was a passenger in a car where the driver said the brakes gave out. Anyway, her both arms and some ribs were broken (one arm in three places) as well as facial cuts and abrasions. But thank God she'll be okay. She regained consciousness within a few hours of the accident and underwent surgery yesterday. It will be a hard road back to her very active self but we thank God for life.

I think this whole transit strike is as a result of the war on unions and the middle class. People take government jobs in lieu of much better pay in the private sector because of the pension benefits. The MTA claims to have a billion dollar surplus, yet the workers have been without a raise in three years! The union will have to make concessions on the pension issue for future workers eventually like state and other government workers have had to do. However, Bloomberg can afford to play hardball now because he's no longer running for mayor.

Thank goodness, because of the creative nature of my son's job he's allowed flexible hours, so my husband drives him into lower Manhattan after 11 a.m. and will pick him up after 7 p.m. During these time cars can go into lower Manhattan without having at least four passengers. Otherwise, he'd be having a rather difficult time.

Anybody care to guess as to what kind of verdict will come out of the Kraal case. Will Reneto Adams be convicted?
