Sis HR, we will say thank God that your niece is on the mend. Bad news around the holiday just seems worse.

Quote:
People take government jobs in lieu of much better pay in the private sector because of the pension benefits

Sis HR, that used to be, not anymore. The salary of government workers, espescially those up to high middle ranks, is competitive with the private sector. Several municipalities have engaged actuaries to estimate the cost of these post retirement benefits and it has been a major shock to them. The union has to get with it. Times are a changing. The NYPD accepted lower wages for its new hires as a part of their recent negotatiations. That is wrong as $25K annually with chances of being killed is just too much of a sacrifice.

The international union has distanced itself from this strike as they believe that the package offerred by the MTA is fair. The governor, who is in charge of the MTA, will remain inflexible as he courts conservatives for his run for presidency.

A fine of a million dollars per day should get them back to work.
