is a pain. I flew into Kingston last December for Big Man's funeral, because Mum and I had to go to the insurance office in New Kingston to get the check on my fathers insurance. Now, even though I was born and bred in Kingston, I made a vow that night time should never catch me in that city. I ended up having to overnight there because we could not collect the check, as it had to pass thru forty million people at the insurance office. My Dad actually worked at this insurance co for years, and made them and himself some serious good money back when I was growing up.
So anyway, on the second day we were told the check was ready, but the lady who was to sign it was out at lunch. This was 3 hours after we were told to come and pick the check up by a certain time.
I couldn't deal with the wait no longer, so I told my mother, lets just go back to the country and start the funeral preparations and so forth. To be honest, we never really needed the money from them right away to bury him. My mother looked me dead in the face and said. Your father generated plenty of money for this company, and I am getting this money today. I am not using no other money to bury him. So if the check nuh ready, HIM NAH BURY!!
I just shut my mouth, because she was correct; principle is principle. If a private company can be behaving like that, what to say about govt?
Weirdly enough, she is collecting the widow's pension just fine.
