Cop allegedly involved in robberies to face ID parade
A Police Constable taken into custody last week in connection with a series of armed attacks on returning residents is to face an identification parade on Tuesday.
The Constable was arrested last week as part of the police manhunt for armed robbers targeting returning residents in several parishes across the country.
The police launched an investigation into the Constable's activities after he was reportedly pointed out at the airport as being one of several men carrying out the robberies.
Two men who were in his company were also taken into custody.
Following his arrest, Flying Squad detectives, led by Deputy Superintendent Cornwall Ford, raided his home in Manchester.
The police say they seized 58 M16 rounds and two M16 magazines at the premises.
Goods believed stolen from a returning resident last week in Clarendon were also found at the premises.
DSP Ford told RJR News Monday that the police have since recovered a number of stolen goods from the policeman's girlfriend in Southside, Central Kingston.
He said items of jewellery, money, clothing and cellular phones stolen by members of the criminal network have been seized at other locations.
According to DSP Ford, returning residents from St. Thomas, Manchester, Clarendon and St. Elizabeth have been coming forward to identify items stolen from them.
Returning residents, particularly those from England, have been targeted by the robbers who trail them from the airport and rob them at their homes.
The police are continuing their manhunt for other members of the criminal network.
In the meantime, head of the Association for the Resettlement of Returning Residents, Percy Latouche, has applauded the police for the breakthrough in the probe.
However Mr. Latouche says the police should not let up as the gang targeting returning residents is still active despite the recent arrests.
